Initial Goals of The War
In most cases, the Korean War was just a factor of the Cold War between the U.S. and USSR, but still a big part of World History. On the other side the Korean War seemed to be a war between North Korea and South Korea, however the superpowers were using them as a front to combat each other without actually going into a heated war, since both nations had an atom bomb. The U.S had three reasons as to join the war: The first reason was they were trying to undermine communism. this reason frightened President Truman because he believed that capitalism, freedom, an the American way o life might be overrun by communism. The second reason was the "Domino Theory". This was time when salami tactics in Eastern Europe was not the only place where Communism was coming to power. They became powerful in the Far East, too, when China turned Communist in 1949. And finally the last reason was Truman soon realized the U.S was in competition for world domination with the USSR. By supporting South Korea, America was able to fight Communism without directly attacking Russia.
However, Russia also had a reason to participate in the war. Stalin wanted to expand Communism as long as he didn't have to get involved in a "hot war" with the U.S. That's when Kim IL Sung visited Stalin to persuade him that they can conquer South Korea with Russia's Support. Kim also was planning to get Mao Tse Tung, the leader of China to support them.
But the action that started the whole war was in 1950 Syngman Rhee bragged how he was going to invade North Korea. People thought it was a legitimacy excuse, North Korea was invading South Korea already. But that's when the actual fighting started.
Prompt:
Throughout the war many countries had many reasons to fight numerous battles in this war. Russia's reason was to spread communism whilst trying to win. North Korea only wanted the invasion of their Southern counterpart. South Korea wanted the invasion they had planned upon their Northern counterpart. These events of course all led up to the 3-year war, the Korean War.
