Jockeying for Political Advantages
Tensions between North Korea and South Korea grew as the war trudged on. When North Korea's army all of a sudden planned out a full-scale attack upon the South. Which made matters already worse than the current situation. In response, American policymakers saw this as an alarm, scrambling to get together a necessary military. At the same time, however, several top figures in the Truman Administration saw the Korean crisis not only as a threat but also as an opportunity- or perhaps even an unlikely kind of salvation. After FDR's death, when VP Harry S. Truman took office, postwar conflicts broke out. Truman did try his best to fill Roosevelt's shoes as a leader. Truman sought to push forward with an agenda calling for far-reaching liberal programs at home and muscular opposition to Communism abroad. As heavy as the situation was for the South Korean Regime following the Communists North's successful invasion of his country. However, shortly after China entered the conflict in November 1950, both Truman and MacArthur had convinced themselves that there was little or no chance on a large-scale Chinese intervention in the situation., and that total victory of North Korea was near. As the war went on, both came to be proved wrong when thousands of Chinese soldiers showed themselves on the mountains of North Korea. It threw the American soldiers into a complete disorganized mess. Neither Truman or MacArthur wanted to take the blame. It was clear to both American leaders that the Chinese may have a chance int his war.
Prompt:
South Korea did have the advantage when it came to political conflicts. They had allies like Canada, America, Great Britain, India, etc. But when it came down to North Korea, all they had was Russia and China. Which does give them some advantage since both countries are rather large in politics, but nothing compared to what South Korea has.
